How to Develop Research Question for Dissertation

Research questions are one of the most important parts of the dissertation on which your dissertation

results are based. It is developed on the basis of hypotheses and problem statement that are used to test

the hypotheses. While writing the questions you need to take in to consideration the following points:

1. For writing research questions, you will require two main things that are hypothesis and research

problem for your dissertation, which you must have already written in your proposal. It is one of

the key things to ensure that your project keeps going in the right direction. Every task you

undertake should begin with you checking your research problem and asking whether and not

this will help you in addressing the problem of your dissertation.

2. Literature review can give you hints and broader concepts to write the questions, read through

again as it will help you in many ways.

3. Typically, research questions are made for survey purposes, which mean that other people

(potential target audience) shall be reading and answering it. What you have to keep in mind is

that your questions must be easily understandable and comprehendible. If the answerer could not

understand the terms you have written chances are that they wrongly answer that will affect the

results of your research.

4. Be focused when you are writing the questions. Your questions should address the aspect of the

hypotheses. For example, you have four hypotheses for your research, make separate sets of

questions for each hypothesis and write each one by one. Try to be precise as much as possible.

It is not mandatory mention hypotheses in final research question paper.

5. Make short questions, because short questions are easily understandable. Generally, everyone is

in a hurry and you might have to face problems in order to get your questionnaire filled or

convince people for an interview.

6. This will require a lot of research; you can also consult your supervisor or dissertation writing service

providers for help in writing the questions.

7. You can search for already written questions and modify them as per your dissertation. However,

do not someone else’s questions to test your research problem as they have developed it from

the perspective of their research.

8. Once you have written the research question as your supervisor to proofread. Proofreading will

save you from whole lot of trouble, for instance you collect the data using the same questionnaire

and it turn out to be irrelevant then you will have to do double the work. In order to save from this

hassle you can even ask your class fellow or colleagues or some people (who falls in your target

audience) to fill the questionnaire in order to check whether they are able to answer properly or

not. If they are facing any trouble in understanding, you can replace the difficult words with some

easy words.

I hope that you will find these tips helpful in writing the research questions for your dissertation.
